The Qatari beach handball team will meet Uruguay today in their first match of the the 10th edition of the World Games held in Wroclaw, Poland.
The match is played in Group B which includes Brazil and Australia, while Group A contains teams of Croatia, Hungary, Egypt and Poland. The first and second teams of each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
The Qatari team in the tournament consists of ten players. They are Muhsin Mohamed Al Yafi’i, Mahab Ali Mahfouz, Mu’tasim Mohamed Abdulwahed, Amir Dengir, Sayed Ali Qenaoui, Ahmed Ragab Morjan, Anis Abdulrazzaq El Zouaoui, Mohammed Ahmed Zaki, Hani Marwan Kakhi and Hadi Hazem Hamdoun. The team held a training camp in Poland for a week in preparation for the World Games, for which they qualified after finishing third in the latest world championships held in Hungary last year.
This is the second time for the Qatari national handball team to participate in the World Games. the team took part in the last edition held in Colombia in 2013 and finished fourth after losing to Croatia 1/2.
Qatar are seeking to add a new achievement to their previous series of achievements, which include two third place finishes in World Championships, four Asian Championships titles and three Asian Beach Games titles.
