The Compensation Claims Committee received around 1,800 complaint applications and calls from Qataris and expatriates within the past two weeks of its launch.
The complaints pertain to the losses incurred by the applicants as both a direct and indirect outcome of the ongoing blockade imposed on the country by four Arab states, according to local Arabic daily Arrayah.
The individual complaints received by the committee include various types of cases, such as financial loss, broken social and family ties, and students being denied the right to complete their education. Many of the complaints have comes from livestock owners as well.
Ali Salem, a Qatari livestock owner, said he has 120 camels with five employees in Saudi Arabia in addition to a number of farms there. He approached the committee to enquire about the documents required to submit a claim for compensation for the loss he  incurred as he was denied access to his possessions in Saudi.
Ali Subaie, another livestock owner, faced a similar problem with his animals stuck in Saudi Arabia. He visited the committee’s office to find a way to get back his livestock. He also praised the panel for its co-operation and for making the procedures for claims easy.
Ibtsam al-Metaab, a Saudi woman living in Doha for the past 12 years and married to a Qatari man, said she is unable to communicate with her family in Saudi Arabia or visit them due to the measures taken by the Saudi-led bloc. She approached the committee to claim damages for the sudden severing of close family ties as she could not visit her family and they were not allowed to come and meet her either.
Mohamed al-Khulaifi, a Qatari national, said he has two plots of land in the UAE worth QR125,000 each. He fears he may lose them due to the blockade and, therefore, approached the committee to claim his lawful rights.
The committee has also received many cases of youths studying in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, who have been adversely affected by the blockade. Unable to complete their studies in those countries, they are worried about their future.
The Compensation Claims Committee, which was opened by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, is the sole committee to follow up of complaints lodged by individuals, private and public companies, State institutions, banks and other affected parties.
