The first two days of the main draw in FIVB World Tour Olsztyn beach volleyball event have been a mixed bag for Qatar.
Qatari team, comprising Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse, defeated the United States duo of Casey Patterson and Theodore Brunner 2-0 (22-20, 21-16) on Thursday, before going down to another American duo — Philip Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucena — 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) yesterday.
On Thursday, a strong first half saw a stalemate with the two teams locked at 20-20 but the Maroon were able to finish it on the winning side 22-20. The second half was dominated by Qatar who won it 21-16.
Qatar’s participation in the tournament is part of their preparatory program to participate in the World Beach Volleyball Championship for the first time, which will be held in the Austrian capital of Vienna from July 28 to August 6.
The draw for the Olsztyn tournament placed Qatar in Group B along with Latvia, Germany and Venezuela. The draw divided the teams into 12 groups.
