The Summer Entertainment City at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) is all set to again provide a new theme and entertainment choice for the next wave of festival-goers this weekend.

“It will be Bollywood-themed for this week,” QSports founder and CEO Adil Ahmed told Gulf Times, as he urged residents and visitors to come and enjoy the shows at the City.

QSports, the first Qatari company to fully organise and host the fourth edition of the City in partnership with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), was responsible for bringing the world’s largest human obstacle course to the country, as well as Qatar’s largest trampoline park.

The City is considered as the family favourite and centrepiece of the annual Qatar Summer Festival, QTA noted.

International entertainers will also showcase their vocal, dancing, sports, and musical talents to provide families and children with a range of exciting performances.

“Thus far, the attendance has been phenomenal. Figures have already surpassed last year's first week in just the first four days. Given that this is a 11-week event, we have opted to adjust the themes by week in order to keep the content and entertainment fresh,” Ahmed said.

“Week two is traditionally even stronger than the first week. We believe next week's theme will be a perfect backdrop to the City,” he added.

The City hosts a wide variety of live entertainment with at least two new shows every week, apart from the different activities, amusement park rides, interactive games, and other new activities for all ages. It is open daily from 2pm to 11pm.

QSports deputy chairman Ghanim al-Mohannadi said the City offers “more than 100 activities for all until September 5, including sports, food, and fun never before seen in Qatar.”

A large space at the City is dedicated to fitness and sports, which aims to help promote a healthy lifestyle in Qatar. In addition, its food court serves up a variety of health-conscious meals and snacks and drinks to visitors.

Meanwhile, participating malls are expecting an increase in footfall from today as many residents and visitors will be spending their weekend with their families before work resumes next week.

Various retailers at these malls are offering special promotions and discounts of up to 50% and a chance to win big prizes at the raffle draw on September 5.

A vendor at a popular boutique told Gulf Times that many new and regular customers have been visiting their shop since the first day of Eid al-Fitr to look for sale items.

“The entertainment shows are attracting a lot of visitors to the mall and we expect more (shoppers) this weekend since it will coincide with the payday of many employees,” she added.

According to QTA, the festival this year is the biggest ever, which started on the first day of Eid al-Fitr (June 25) and will run until the fifth day of Eid al-Adha (September 5).
