The University of Aberdeen in Qatar will launch its unique academic programmes, first of their kind in the country in the private sector, from September this year.
The university admits students who have completed qualified courses to enter the third year directly of the four year undergraduate programmes. This year, the university will offer two undergraduate programmes of business management and accountancy and finance.
Al Faleh Group (AFG) that runs the Qatar campus recently held an ‘open day’ to raise awareness on the new programmes as well as to educate prospective students.
The open day event, held at their new university campus was attended by principal Brian Buckley in the presence Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh al-Thani, chief executive officer of University of Aberdeen in Qatar. The Qatar campus is the first branch campus outside the UK.
Other officials of the university who attended the event included Prof Jeremy Kilburn, senior vice principal; Prof Richard Wells, dean, Trans National Education; and Dr Russell Williams, director, Graduate School of Management. They also presented successful applicants with their official
university acceptance letters.
A large number of prospective students and their parents were present to learn about the advantages of studying in the university.
Dr Sheikha Aisha commented, “The open day event will be the first of many of the student admissions events, which will run throughout the summer months, giving prospective students the opportunity to meet with college course advisers and academics to discuss their future educational plans.”
“The Qatar campus will maintain the same quality of education as the main campus back in the UK. We will start the classes on the same day the UK university resumes the academic year and we have got a team of experienced faculty members,” she added.
The university is a newly established partnership offering two UK undergraduate degrees from the University of Aberdeen, specialising in business management and accountancy and finance. The degrees will commence in September 2017 and are offered over four years, with opportunities for qualified candidates to enter year three of their chosen degrees with evidence of previous study.
