National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) chairman Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri has said the blockade imposed on Qatar is like a “new Berlin Wall”, calling on the European Parliament to act upon the human rights violations of Qatar’s citizens and residents. Speaking at a European Parliament meeting in Brussels, al-Marri urged the body to visit the NHRC headquarters to see what he referred to as the suffering of Qatari citizens due to the new regulations of  Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, Al Jazeera reported yesterday. “This is not just a case of diplomatic ties being cut off,” al-Marri said. “What is happening is not a boycott but an unjust blockade and a collective punishment for Qatar’s citizens and residents.”
