In keeping with its pivotal role helping star athletes achieve maximum results, Aspetar – the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in Qatar –provided medical support to Qatari triathlon star, Abdulla al-Homaidi, at the recent Ironman Championship 2017 in Australia. Ironman Australia Championship 2017 comprised a 3.8km swimming event, 180km of cycling and 42km of running.
Aspetar acting director general Dr Mohamed Ghaith al-Kuwari congratulated al-Homaidi and awarded him an honorary certificate for his remarkable performance at the championship.
“I speak for the whole country when I say I am proud of Abdullah al-Homaidi’s performance. To have done so well in such a difficult sport, which requires very high levels of physical, mental and technical fitness, is a considerable achievement,” al-Kuwari said.
Talking about his participation, al-Homaidi said, “It was an honour to represent Qatar and raise our flag in front of thousands of participants and spectators. I’d like to thank Aspetar and everyone else for their support, who played a vital role in keeping me motivated and focused during my triathlon tour in Australia. I look forward to working with Aspetar and relevant organisations in future competitions to achieve even greater results.”
Aspetar, through its Sports Science Department, will continue supporting local athletes by looking for further opportunities to collaborate with local sports organisations, and by implementing exercise plans to prepare athletes for major competitions.
