Awais Malik claimed four wickets for 17 runs as Qatar romped to their third straight victory in the World Cricket League Asia Region division One tournament when they thrashed Thailand by 60 runs at the Gymkhana Club in Chiang Mai yesterday.
Man-of-the-match Malik’s haul came off just eight overs, four of which were maidens, as hosts Thailand were bundled out for 100 runs in reply to Qatar’s total of 160.
Daniel Jacobs top-scored for Thailand with an unbeaten 50, the highest individual score in what was a low scoring match.
Jacobs took 88 balls for his half-century and hit five boundaries to resurrect the Thai innings after they had lost three wickets with just five runs on the board.
Sarbjot Singh with 18 and Nopphon Senamontree with 12 were the others in the Thai line-up who scored in the double figures.
Mohamed Nadeem claimed two for 25 for Qatar while Inam-Ul-Haq and Zaheer Ibrahim took one wicket each.
Earlier, Qatar made a disappointing start when skipper Inam-Ul-Haq was bowled by Kamron Senamontree for just one.
A 32-run partnership for the second wicket between Qalandar Khan and Mohamed Rizlan steadied the innings before the former fell victim to Kamron Senamontree, who took  two for 22 in 10 overs .
Khan made 20 off 35 balls with three boundaries. Rizlan contributed 24 and Khurram Shahzad 26, both falling to Popphon Senamontree, who claimed three for 35 in 10 overs
Tamoor Sajjad top-scored for Qatar with 32 with the help of our boundaries and a six and Nouman Sarwar chipped in with 22 before Qatar were dismissed in 45.2 overs.
Qatar, who had beaten Kuwait and Bhutan by huge margins earlier in the tournament, will now take on Bahrain today
