More than 300 oncology experts and allied health professionals are expected to attend Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) first masterclass in breast cancer management, set to take place in Doha on April 28-29.
The event, organised by the breast cancer care team at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) under the theme “Moving Towards Comprehensive Breast Cancer Care,” is part of HMC’s continuous efforts to combine innovative research, first class education, and excellent clinical care.
The participants will discuss the latest techniques in breast cancer management, cancer research and developments, and review the best practices from local, regional, and international healthcare institutions.
“We are very pleased to be leading on such a great initiative. This is an excellent platform for us to not only shed light on breast cancer management, including screening, diagnosis and treatment options, but also to share knowledge, exchange expertise, and discuss different views with colleagues and leaders in the field,” said Dr Salha Bujassoum al-Bader, senior consultant medical oncologist at NCCCR and chair of the Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
“This is a unique opportunity to expand our knowledge base and find out more about this disease with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient care and helping to save lives,” she added.
The masterclass is clinically focused and has been designed for physicians, medical oncologists, pathologists, gynaecologists, surgeons, and clinicians who are almost exclusively dedicated to clinical oncology.
Physicians from the Primary Health Care Corporation, as well as those in the private sector wishing to improve their skills in the management of breast cancer, have been invited to attend.
Throughout the two-day event, participants will learn about a range of issues in clinical oncology, breast cancer management, and practice-orientated training.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects women and men around the world and is the second leading cause of death from cancer in Qatar.
According to the Qatar National Cancer Registry – Ministry of Public Health, breast cancer ranks as the top cancer in Qatar (17.42%), followed by colon cancer (10.55%).
The highest incidence of breast cancer (16.2%) occurs in women aged between 45 and 49 years of age.
“At HMC, improving our patients’ quality of life is one of our top priorities. A dedicated team of qualified experts is committed to delivering the most up to date solutions for managing complications while considering every aspect of the patient’s needs,” said Dr Mohamed Ussama al-Homsi, senior consultant in the Oncology Department at NCCCR.
