Qalandar Khan and Iman-Ul-Haq starred in a 128-run opening stand and Mohamed Nadeem took four wickets for just 10 runs as Qatar thrashed Kuwait by 150 runs in the World Cricket League Asia Division 1 tournament in Chiang Mai, Thailand, yesterday.
Khan hit 72 runs with 10 fours and two sixes off 83 balls, while Inam-Ul-Haq’s 62 was studded with five boundaries and one six as Qatar posted 295 for 6 in 40 overs.
Taimoor Sajjad’s 43 off 32 balls in the middle-order with four boundaries and two sixes and a blazing 57 off just 19 balls with five sixes by Zaheer Ibrahim lower down the order boosted Qatar’s total.
Haroon Shahid claimed three wickets for Kuwait in 10 overs but that was the only bright spot in their bowling.
Needing almost six runs per over for victory, Kuwait made a nightmare start when Usman Shahid was dismissed for just one run on the board.
But the other opener Aamir Javed (52) and Mohamed Irfan (29) strung together a partnership of 55 runs to give them some hope.
However, both were dismissed with the score on 56, triggering a collapse from which Kuwait never recovered and were eventually dismissed for 145 with Nadeem’s haul of four for 10 in 8.4 overs polishing off the tail.
Iman-Ul-Haq and Iqbal Hussain claimed two wickets each.
In another match Saudi Arabia thrashed China by 390 runs. China, needing 419 for victory ended up at 28 for nine With Ibrar-Ul-Haq, Imran Arif and Shahbaz Rasheed claiming three wickets each.
