Sudanese Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman yesterday met here with HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
Talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations and means of enhancing them.
The two sides also discussed the peace process in Darfur and the success of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur in achieving security, peace and stability.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of reconstruction and development projects in Darfur within the framework of the Doha Document and various projects that have been implemented in this context for the benefit of the citizens of Darfur, which in turn was reflected on the peace and stability process.
Sudan’s vice president hailed the outstanding role being played by Qatar to achieve sustainable peace, development and stability not only in Darfur but also in Sudan.
Al-Mahmoud described the meeting “constructive” and “fruitful”, adding they discussed a number of issues along with the agenda of the two meetings due to be held in Khartoum today on reconstruction and development in Darfur and the monitoring committee of the implementation of Doha Document for Peace and the relevant reconstruction and development projects as well as the path of peace in Darfur and Sudan.
“We listened to a number of points that will be taken into account in our way to achieving peace and stability in Darfur,” al-Mahmoud said.
Talks during the meeting also dealt with relations between Qatar and Sudan, the positive atmosphere witnessed by Sudan and the region as well as means of dealing with these for the good of Sudan and the region.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs also met yesterday with Sudanese Presidential Envoy for Diplomatic Contact and Negotiation for Darfur Dr Amin Hassan Omar and Head of the Darfur Peace Office Majdi Khalafallah.
The meeting reviewed the peace process in Darfur and the positive steps made at this level in the framework of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
Al- Mahmoud arrived in the Sudanese capital on Saturday night to preside over the fourth meeting of the Darfur Reconstruction Board of Directors and the second meeting of the monitoring committee of the implementation of Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
He was welcomed upon arrival at Khartoum International Airport by Cabinet Affairs Minister Ahmed Saad Omer and Qatar’s ambassador to Sudan Rashid bin Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi along with a number of ministers and heads of political parties and movements that have joined the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
The fourth meeting of the Darfur Reconstruction Board of Directors will review reconstruction and development operations in various states of Darfur after the establishment of security and stability and development projects for the next stage.
