Qatar is one of the best markets for premium and luxury limited edition timepieces across the world, said a top watch industry professional yesterday on the sidelines of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE).
Vacheron Constantin’s regional brand director (Middle East and Indian subcontinent), Alexander Schmiedt, said the urge to possess unique luxury watches is growing in Qatar and the trend continues among the young generation as well.
While acknowledging the strides made by his company in the last five decades since it began doing business in Qatar, Schmiedt said their association with a loyal client as Alfardan Jewellery has made their watches a most sought-after luxurious item at several affluent Qatari homes.
The Vacheron Constantin official said Qatar was perhaps the first place in the region where their company started selling limited edition timepieces and each year there has been a growing demand for their watches in the local market.
Yesterday the watchmaker recalled the uninterrupted 262-year-old history of their company and their Sonnerie and Astronomy models are considered the ultimate in their respective segments. The hand-timed pieces, he said, has more than 500 independent handmade components and extensive researches were carried out for years before the company began their making.
Schmeidt also recollected their company’s track record in making pocket watches and perpetual calendars in the last two centuries and also remembered the strides made by Vacheron models at different periods between 1827 and 2017.
Even 70 years before that Vacheron was into the making of timepieces, he said while adding that utmost perfection was put into the work of every watch that the company is making.
Later, Alfardan Jewellery president Ali Alfardan thanked the Swiss watchmaker for their continuous trust in his company all along.
