Officials of the Qatar Businessmen Association (QBA) held a private meeting with the mayor of Sao Paulo city and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways to enhance Qatar-Brazil bilateral relations.
Accompanied by Brazilian ambassador Roberto Abdalla, Mayor João Doria and his delegation met with QBA first deputy chairman Hussein Alfardan, including board members Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani and Sherida Saad al-Kaabi, as well as QBA member Khalid Ahmed Mannai and QBA deputy general manager Sarah Abdallah.
QBA said in a statement that the meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and how to stimulate economic and trade relations to increase Qatar-Brazil trade volume.
The meeting also aims to capture the interest of Qatari businessmen and take advantage of the available business opportunities in Sao Paulo, and promote joint cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.
Doria, who praised the economic prosperity of Qatar, said he was pleased to meet with the QBA and stressed on Brazil’s interest in investing here and increase trade cooperation between the two countries.
Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and Latin America, and the sixth largest city in the world. It is home to Brazil’s major commercial and industrial centres. Known for ethnic and cultural diversity, Sao Paulo also specialises in industrial production, especially in chemicals and pharmaceuticals, textile, electrical appliances, machinery and rubber products, food industry, cement and furniture, as well as the automotive industry, and building materials.
On the other hand, Qatar ranks fourth among Arab countries receiving Brazilian exports valued at $122mn comprising fertilisers and mineral fuels and oil.
QBA expressed optimism for trade growth between the two countries brought about by “the flow of infrastructure projects in Qatar and continuing improvements within the various economic sectors.
