The country is likely to experience unstable weather from tomorrow evening until Tuesday (February 14) night, resulting in strong winds, rain and thunderstorms, the Qatar Met department has said.
A slight rise in temperatures is also expected during this period, according to the weather office. In a report yesterday, the Met department said weather maps indicated that a spell of instability would affect the country on the above-mentioned days. It will get cloudy and there is a chance of light, scattered rain during this period. The conditions will intensify between Sunday and Tuesday, leading to medium to heavy rain in some areas along with thunderstorms at times.
This will be due to the “deepening of an upper low-pressure system” over northern Saudi Arabia, along with an “extension of the Sudan low-pressure system” over the Arabian Peninsula, the report explains. The wind will be mostly southeasterly, and light to moderate in intensity, on Friday and Saturday. Then, it will become fresh to strong on Sunday and Monday. The wind speed will be in the range of 18-25 knots, going up to 35 knots during the thunderstorms.
The sea height, meanwhile, will be 8-12ft and may rise to 15ft during thundershowers. A slight rise in temperatures has also been predicted during the entire period, going up by 2-3C. In Doha, the maximum temperature will be 24-26C and the minimum 14-16C, the report states.
The Met department has urged people to be cautious in view of the expected inclement weather and windy conditions and follow related developments through its official website and social networking sites. More is available at http://qweather.gov.qa
