Reach Out To Asia (Rota) volunteers recently carried out renovation works at a house in Al Gharafa as part of its ‘Reach into Qatar’ campaign which extends social development assistance to families in need across the country.
As part of the community development project funded by Da’am, the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, 50 Rota youth volunteers assisted in completing a full makeover of the family home.
Volunteers restored three bedrooms, a majlis, a dining room, an entrance hall, and two bathrooms. The renovation tasks assigned to volunteers included interior and exterior painting; walls, windows and plumbing repairs; installation of electrical appliances including fridge, freezer, cooker, A/C units, TV, DVD player; rubbish clearance; and installing new furnishings including carpets and curtains.
Fatima al-Khater, Rota volunteer, said, “It was an honour to be involved in this project which granted me the opportunity to make a positive contribution to my local community. I believe the skills and experience gained through my participation will also enhance my support capacity as a volunteer on future projects.”
The ‘Reach into Qatar’ initiative aims to transform the living conditions of underprivileged families while offering youth volunteers the opportunity to provide engaging community service support.
Essa al-Mannai, executive director, Rota, said, “This initiative provides our volunteers with invaluable skills and life experience by fostering a sense of citizenship and belonging through innovation, compassion, and creativity.”
“The programme  directly addresses our goal to educate, engage, and encourage all segments of the community to adopt the spirit of volunteerism and get involved in community work, both inside and outside of Qatar,” al-Mannai added.
Volunteers from Rota, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, worked together with Rota’s community partners, Gulf Contracting Company, the Social Development Centre, and Hamad Medical Corporation, to complete the home renovation project.
