Sales at Shop Qatar exceeded more than QR8.5mn throughout the past seven days and more than 42,000 vouchers were entered into its second weekly draw, according to Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

In a statement, QTA noted that QR810,000 worth of cash prizes had been given away to 15 lucky shoppers for the second weekend of the month-long festival, which started on January 7.
“We would like to congratulate this week’s Shop Qatar raffle draw winners and encourage those who have not yet been lucky to continue shopping at participating retailers for a chance to win in the upcoming raffle draw (January 26), including the mega draw for a jackpot QR1mn prize on February 7,” QTA’s chief tourism and promotion officer Rashed al-Qurese said.
Developing new events and festivals such as Shop Qatar is part of QTA’s long term strategy to boost the tourism industry, attract visitors and increase tourism spending.
QTA’s public relations and communication director Saif al-Kuwari pointed out that this winter has brought new energy to the sector with the inaugural edition of Shop Qatar, as well as the 15-day Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakrah Spring Festivals.
The two festivals continue to attract a large number of local and foreign visitors with their cultural and wholesome entertainment offerings, and several attractions that cater to families and children.
“These festivals, which are taking place all over the country, provide opportunities for our visitors to truly experience Qatar,” he stressed. “These efforts will doubtless reflect on the tourism industry's performance, and we would like to thank all partners in the public and private sectors who are making this possible.”
QTA is committed to keeping this momentum going and to cultivating new tourism products and services, especially through its work with entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises, al-Kuwari added.
With sales up by QR4.3mn compared to its first week, QTA expressed confidence that the numbers will further increase in the two remaining weeks of the festival.
Local and foreign visitors will have two more chances to win by shopping or dining at participating restaurants and outlets in any of the festival’s 10 retail partners.
Huge discounts of up to 50% and promotions are still up for grab until February 7 on a range of consumer goods, including clothes, electronics, cosmetics and accessories for men, women and children.
Shoppers who spend QR 200 at any of the participating retailers can enter a weekly raffle draw for a chance to win cash prizes.
The four winners of QR10,000 are Mohamed Qassem al-Battla, Anna Liza Peralta, Heya Khalifeh al-Muhannadi, and Nuben Antonio S Cuku.
Mohamed Farook, Tubin Anthony, Nasser Salem Sain, and Radwan Ahmad Waraki won QR30,000 each while Simon Kearns, Mahmoud Said Mohamed, Hind Saoud al-Thani, Eman Mohamed al-Sayyad, and Mejys S Muono won QR50,000 each.
Mohamed Mahmoud al-Nisani received the QR100,000 prize while Ramu Rajan won QR300,000, the biggest cash prize at Shop Qatar’s second raffle draw.
