Qatar Chamber
hosts British
trade delegation

Qatar Chamber officials met a business delegation from England’s Birmingham city yesterday and discussed the scope of economic co-operation between the two countries.
They also discussed preparations for the Business and Investment Forum to be held in both London and Birmingham at the end of March.
Honorary member of Qatar Chamber Ali Abdullatif al-Mesned, who chaired the Qatari side during the meeting, described bilateral ties between the private sectors of both countries as distinguished. He noted that trade volume between Qatar and the UK reached 2bn pound sterling. Another indication of the strong business ties was the presence of 600 UK companies in Qatar, he added.
On Qatar’s investments in the UK, the honorary member said that it has surpassed 30bn pound sterling. He added that Qatari businessmen were keen to explore investment opportunities in Birmingham.
For his part, the head of the British delegation said that the UK is considered one of the biggest trade partners of Qatar. He expressed his hope for more investments by both sides in 2017 and added that meetings like yesterday’s help shed light on potential partnerships.
He also stressed that the British economy is very stable even after the vote to exit from the European Union and expressed his hope that the upcoming business forum will prove that.

First edition of
Doha Triathlon to
be held on Friday

Qatar Cycling Federation will hold on Friday the first edition of The Doha Triathlon 2017, which will launch from the Museum of Islamic Arts.
The race will feature three sports – running, swimming and cycling. A host of regional and international athletes will take part in the event. Those who wish to register can do so through the tournament’s official website. Qatar Tourism Authority, the Museum of Islamic Arts and Royal Air Maroc are one of the race’s many sponsors.

Advisory Council
holds meeting

The Advisory Council held its regular weekly session yesterday under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi.
At the outset of the meeting, HE Secretary General Fahad bin Mubarak al-Khayareen read out the agenda, which was approved before the council ratified the minutes of its previous meeting.
The Council reviewed a draft law amending some of the provisions of Law 8 of 1990 on food control and decided to refer it to the Services and Public Utilities Committee for further study.
Meanwhile, the Advisory Council’s Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee yesterday held a meeting under the chairmanship of its Rapporteur Nasser Serayea al-Kaabi.
The committee resumed its study of a draft law regulating the work of real estate brokerages. It agreed to resume the study at a later meeting.

credentials

Head of Protocol at the Belgian Foreign Ministry Francoise Gustin received a copy of the credentials of Qatar’s ambassador to Belgium Abdulrahman bin Mohamed al-Khuleifi. The Head of Protocol wished the Qatari ambassador success in his duties.
