Trainer Jassim Ghazali and jockey Harry Bentley pick up two wins

Mowhoubat Al Zaidy showed a clean pair of heels when Eduardo Pedroza rode the Ibrahim al-Malki-saddled mare to a fine victory in the Umm Taqa Cup, yesterday’s feature race at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.
The 1700m run for Purebred Arabians fillies and mares, saw Pedroza guide his mount into the lead coming off Gate 1, with the Hassan al-Matwi duo Lolita Du Panjshir and Mindza on her heels, along with Jassim Ghazali’s Bahia Du Barthas.
With two furlongs to go, Pedroza and his partner just pulled away and eventually finished three lengths ahead of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Hagwa, ridden by Marco Monteriso, who edged out Umm Qarn’s Samaa at the post for the second spot.
Third Dimension made his liking for dirt very evident when the Ghazali-trained gelding registered his third win on the surface in Qatar, winning the Thoroughbred Conditions (Class 1) event.
Ridden by Harry Bentley, Third Dimension tracked the leaders early on, with Zuhair Mohsen’s Bluebeard up front with Al Shaqab Racing’s Baitha Alga alongside.
Bluebeard couldn’t hold on coming on to the home stretch, and Faleh Bughanaim had Baitha Alga move up ahead, but a furlong from the finish, found himself passed by Bentley and his ride.
Bustawi Ismail-saddled Upholland finished third behind Baitha Alga.
Xavier Ziani guided Charme Secret to his second win in a little over a month in the Division 2 run of the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 5) event for horses rated 61-75.
Charme Secret finished two lengths ahead of Mohamed Jassim Ghazali’s Scudding to win the six furlong sprint, while Zuhair Mohsen-schooled Farendole completed the podium.
Mohsen’s ward Pipe Bomb won the Division 1 run of the same event with a commanding display, finishing six lengths ahead of Hadi al-Ramzani’s Cueca, ridden by Tomas Lukasek.
The win was Pipe Bomb’s first since March 2016, and the gelding beat six-year-old mare Cueca, who had won a 1700m handicap race a week ago.
Fresh after shedding her maiden status a week ago, Hillside Dream was in the frame once again, under Harry Bentley’s ride.
In the longest run of the day, Umm Qarn’s Hadeer won the Local Thoroughbred Conditions event for four-year-olds and older maidens, and one, two, three time winners.
Under Gaetan Faucon’s ride, Alban de Mieulle’s charge finished a commanding eight lengths ahead of her rivals in the 1900m race for her second win this season.
Khalid al-Nuaimi’s charge Ammon finished second ahead of Mubarak al-Khayarin’s ward Al Jamaaheer, ridden by Harry Bentley.
In the first race of the day, Meteb al-Marri guided Mohamed al-Sheeb-trained Kasser to a massive seven-length victory in the Purebred Arabian Special Conditions event yesterday. Kasser led throughout the six-furlong sprint, finishing ahead of Eduardo Pedroza’s mount Al Qassam, while Alberto Sanna guided Haddaj Dukhan to third spot.
In the day’s only maiden race for Arabians, Khalid al-Nuaimi’s in-form Semwo shed his maiden status in the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate event. Stephan Ladjadj rode the six-year-old to a victory ahead of Udai Al Wajba and Tasabeeh Al Hana.
In the two Thoroughbreds maiden races, Incandescent, making her debut in Qatar under Tomas Lukasek, and Dubawi Hundred, running for the first time on turf in Qatar, registered their first career wins.
