The country is likely to experience another spell of strong winds and dusty conditions until early tomorrow, the Qatar Met department has said.
The mercury will dip during this period, according to the weather office, which has also issued a warning for strong winds and high seas in offshore areas.
In a report yesterday, the Met department said a high-pressure ridge was expected to affect the country from today dawn until early tomorrow. This will be accompanied by fresh to strong northwesterly winds, ranging from 12-22 knots in inshore areas and reaching a high of 25 knots at times.
There is a chance of blowing dust and low visibility, especially in open areas, during this period while temperatures may see a slight drop. In Doha, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 25C and 16C, respectively, and lower than that in the external areas. Windy conditions will make it feel colder.
Waves may reach a height of 12ft towards the north with the wind speed reaching a high of 28 knots in offshore areas.
The detailed forecast for inshore areas today states that slight to blowing dust is expected in some places at times, bringing down visibility to 2km or less. Mild daytime conditions and scattered clouds are also expected, and it will be cold by night.
Dusty conditions are also likely in offshore areas today along with some clouds.
Temperatures, meanwhile, have started coming down again after witnessing a slight rise over the past few days. For instance, the minimum temperature is expected to be 9C in Abu Samra today, followed by 12C in Mesaieed, Wakrah, Al Khor and Dukhan, 15C in Ruwais and 16C in Doha. The maximum, too, will drop to 19C in Ruwais and 20C in Dukhan and Abu Samra.
Yesterday, a minimum temperature of 10C was recorded in Abu Samra until 6pm, 12C in Turayna and Karana, 13C in Mesaieed, Dukhan and Batna, 16C in the Qatar University and Hamad International Airport areas and 18C in the Doha airport area. The maximum ranged from 21C to 28C in the country.

Shortest day of the year
The winter solstice will occur today, marking the shortest day – and longest night – of the year in the northern hemisphere. Informing this yesterday, the Qatar Met department said the days gradually become longer after the winter solstice until days and nights are of approximately same duration during the spring equinox in March.
