Gulf Times’ staff were saddened to learn of the recent passing of their former colleague George Macintyre in Newcastle, UK. His death follows a long illness.
George served Gulf Times as sports editor from April 1984 - July 1987 and then as production editor from 1987 to 1990.
After leaving Qatar he served ncjMedia as senior sub-editor for 19 years and later as site editor/owner at www.fishingforanglers.com producing a roundup of angling news in the North East of England.
George was a long time stalwart of Newcastle branch of National Union of Journalists (NUJ) serving as president (2003-4).
His colleagues at Gulf Times remember him for his constant chuckle. He was good humoured and always entertaining. He was a great story teller and so often lightened mood with funny stories or jokes.
