Losail International Circuit is opening its doors twice a month for ladies only to enable them to exercise in an outdoor facility with privacy.
The above announcement was made in the presence of president of Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA) Abdulrahman al-Dosari, president of Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC) Saud al-Attiyah, Qatar Cyclists representative Dr Abdulaziz al-Kuwari and Oola Sports CEO Haya al-Ghanim during a press conference held last Wednesday, a regular training day at the circuit.
In cooperation with Qatar Sports for All Federation and Qatar Cyclists, Losail Circuit Sports Club continues to focus on hosting physical activities that aims to maximise the full potential of the facilities.
The goal is to provide the community with a safe and comfortable environment to exercise in. In addition to regular Wednesday training days, the track will now also be open exclusively for ladies only on selected Tuesdays of every month. Speaking on the occasion LCSC president Saud al-Attiyah said, “I have been president of the circuit for one year now and  during the period, we have been able to use the facility the most we can, but still we can do more work in community engagement and use it to its full potential. Today I am happy to launch this new event with Qatar Sports for All Federation and Qatar Cyclists. We are here to provide all we can from the circuit to cyclists in the community.”
“We came to this Circuit with three goals in mind - To have more community engagement, increase the motor sports involvement in our youth and to lessen the burden on the government on providing facilities for physical activity. With these goals in mind we hope that the community comes to our facility and takes advantage of it as it will be open to the public,” he said.
QSFA president Abdulrahman al-Dosari said. “Qatar Sports for All Federation was very concerned and focused on encouraging the community to be more physically active and live a healthier lifestyle.
“As a part of this focus, we launched a Women’s Community Sport activity that is taking place in four different schools on a weekly basis where we open the recreation centres of those schools to all the females interested in having a comfortable atmosphere for them to come and exercise.
“To continue this focus on physical activity, we will be launching this new event, Ladies Training Days, as part of this continuous effort to make our community live a healthier life,” he said.
Dr Abdulaziz al-Kuwari said that Qatar Cyclists is very proud to announce this launch with Qatar Sports for All Federation and Losail International Circuit under the slogan ‘Activity is wellness’.
“As agreed with the Qatar Sports for All Federation, there will be days specifically for women where it will be completely closed off for them to be comfortable in an open area. We had this event last year for one day and had over 700 participants (including some who came from KSA) which show the aspiration from women who want to exercise and we wish to continuously grow the participation during this event.
“On days for females only, there will be other activities such as walking, jogging, yoga, as well as special allocated area for the children,” said al-Kuwari.
“There will be two days of the month dedicated for ladies only and four days of the month open to all families and the public. We will provide extra care and activities for the ladies only days as we are trying our best to motivate the women in the community who don’t have as much access to areas to exercise,” he said.
“‘I would like to send a special thank you to the Qatar Sports for All Federation for their continuous efforts in providing activities for the Qatar community.
“From the day Saud al-Attiyah was named president of the Losail International Circuit we have seen an increase in community involvement and the cyclists are extremely happy to have somewhere where they can ride freely without the worry of road safety. I would like to thank all those in Qatar providing activities to the public, especially to Minister of Culture and Sports His Highness Salah Bin Ghanim al-Ali for his continuous support,” he said.
Mrs. Haya al-Ghanim was also very proud to organise recurring training days for ladies and provide this opportunity to all the ladies to exercise freely somewhere that is open and not in a closed area. “I would like to start off by thanking the Losail International Circuit and Qatar Sports for All Federation for this great initiative. An open area is very important to us because most places females have allocated for them, it is in a closed room or small gym.
“So the privacy that is provided to us by the Losail International Circuit is very helpful and we appreciate it greatly. We will be providing the cycles and gear, so people wouldn’t have to find ways to bring their personal cycles from home all the way here. We will also have special trainers to provide yoga lessons, mini boot camp, walking, and other activities.
“After the success we had in April, I am optimistic that we will have a great turnout. We will kick off the event on the 13th of December and we hope that this initiative will encourage more families to join us and enjoy a healthier lifestyle,” Haya said.
The first Ladies training days will be on December 13 and the next days will be on December 20 and 27. The track will be open from 17:00 to 20:30 with the registration on the same day and free of charge. You will be asked to complete a registration form and sign a waiver.
There will be an abaya and bag check in station and no men will be allowed inside the track with the CCTV system monitored by female staff only.
