The Al Wakrah Municipality has ordered the closure of a restaurant and a storehouse used by the eatery for flouting regulations.
Municipality director Mansour Ajran al-Buainain issued an administrative decision to close the restaurant on Al Wakrah Street for 60 days and another decision to permanently shut down the storehouse located in a labour accommodation unit, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said in a press statement yesterday.
Health Control inspectors from the municipality detected preparation and storage of food in unhygienic conditions inside the storehouse. The work inside the storehouse was carried out clandestinely, it was found.
Accordingly, a violation report was issued against the restaurant under the provisions of Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control. Foodstuff found inside the storehouse – amounting to some 350kg – was destroyed for being unfit for human consumption. This was done under the supervision of the inspector concerned.
Also, the South Security Department was notified for further legal action against the violator after the municipality rejected a reconciliation request.
