HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul yesterday. During their meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to promote strategic relations between Qatar and Turkey in different spheres. The meeting, which was held at Istanbul’s Huber Palace, also dealt with regional developments, especially in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and Libya. The meeting focused on repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the region and the international community as a whole. HH the Emir and Turkish president emphasised the importance of concerted international efforts to seek a resolution that would stop the war in Syria. They also discussed the situation in Iraq, particularly the recent developments in the city of Mosul, the importance of fighting terrorism and the preservation of Iraq’s unity. The meeting was attended by members of the delegation accompanying the Emir and several Turkish ministers. HH the Emir returned to Doha yesterday evening from Istanbul after his short working visit to Turkey.
