In response to the alarming situation in Mosul, Nineveh and the probable wave of displacement across Iraq due to the current military operations, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has activated its emergency operations room at Doha headquarters to collect information about the condition of displaced people in the strife-torn country.
Real-time reports are received from QRCS’s mission in Iraq and its field groups, in collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
A relief campaign has been launched to help more than 120,000 Iraqis expected to flee Mosul over the coming few days. Also, an emergency appeal has been issued to raise QR15mn for a six-month intervention in shelter, relief items, water, sanitation, and healthcare.
Several organisations have already reacted to the appeal, which warned against one of the world’s worst and most complicated humanitarian crises in 2016.
QRCS has specified multiple means of donation to support the displaced people of Mosul.
QRCS’s mission in Iraq is registered with the Kurdistan Regional Government. A new branch of QRCS’s main office in Erbil is under construction, increasing the total number of branches to five.
As the fighting is likely to intensify, the number of IDPs is estimated to exceed 700,000 people along Mosul, with up to 1.5mn affected by the military operations being moved into the city  itself.
