Al Sadd took on Muaither in round four action of the QSL at the Al Sadd stadium yesterday. The thrilling match ended 4-2 in favour of the Wolves who were given a scare by the newly-promoted side.
Mohammed Kasola opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a towering header from an accurate Xavi free kick to give the Wolves an early lead. Minutes after the first goal, Al Sadd doubled their advantage in the 11th minute thanks to an own goal from Muaither defender Saeed al-Hadj.
Al Sadd’s young defender Hossam Kamal sent in a cross into the box from the right hand side. Hamroun Jugurtha headed the ball towards the goal and it came off the keeper into the path of al-Hadj, who mishit the ball and sent it in for an own goal.
In the 43rd minute Al Sadd furthered their lead through Baghdad Bounedjah the Algerian international confidentially dispatched a right footed volley which found the back of the net after a cross from Ali Assad from the left hand side.
In the 62nd minute Muaither’s captain, Alain Dioko pulled one back for his team with a fantastic solo goal. The Congolese forward dribbled the ball into the box, lined the shot up with his left foot, cut back to his right and then put the ball into the net, to give the Stallions a lifeline.
Muaither grabbed another goal in the 78th minute of the game from the penalty spot. Al Sadd defender Abdelkarim Hassan brought down Muaither’s forward, Ayoub Ouadrassi  in the penalty box with the referee pointed to the spot. Ayoub stepped up for the penalty and slotted it to the right to make it 3-2.
Seconds later Sadd defender Abdelkarim Hassan made up for giving away the penalty by scoring a goal of his own to make it 4-2.  The Qatari international smashed the ball with the outside of his left foot to give the Wolves all three points.

Stalemate between Umm Salal and Al Sailiya
In the other early kick-off Umm Salal faced league strugglers Al Sailiya at the Qatar Sports Club Stadium where the Orange Fortress were aiming to take their unbeaten streak to four games. But it ended up a 0-0 stalemate.
The second half was where all the action was. Al Sailiya’s number 14, Paul Efoulou, looked like one of the Peregrine’s most dangerous men and from the whistle began picking up the ball in Umm Salal’s half and running at the Orange Fortresses’ defence.
Umm Salal looked content to sit back and play on the counter, a tactic that nearly paid dividends on the 68th minute after Hilal Mohammed made a darting run into Al Sailiya’s half and struck a sweet ball to Umm Salal’s number 9, Tha’er Bawab, who despite finding himself in acres of space was unable to control the ball.
Umm Salal created just a handful of chances but on the 83rd minute, their big number 13, Yannick Sagbo, went shoulder-to-shoulder with Mubark Eid al-Saadi in Al Sailiya’s box, which led the far smaller defender wearing blue to fall to the ground and handle the ball within his own 18 yard box which drew loud penalty appeals from the Orange Fortress but the referee waved on play.
Just two minutes later Sagbo found himself in space within the 18 yard box and controlled a long loping pass beautifully on his chest before bringing the ball down and turning to shoot. But Al Sailiya’s goalkeeper, Gregory Gomis, was alert enough and saved the shot
The best chance of the game fell to Al Sailiya substitute Abdulrauf Hussein Omer, who scuffed a great chance in the 91st minute.

Alhi defeat arabi in derby
Al Arabi lost their second game of the season and dented their early title hopes as they succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat to fierce local rivals, Al Ahli, in yesterday’s late QSL kick-off at the Hamad Stadium.
Al Arabi were hoping their new star summer singing, former Chilean international and Inter Milan midfielder, Luis Jiménez, would find his feet for his QSL debut and the club’s first derby with Al Alhi in the 2016/17 season but the midfielder had little impact on the game.
As expected with any local Qatari derby, the game maintained a frenetic pace throughout. With possession balanced and both teams stretching themselves from box to box in the opening half, the first clear chance fell to Al Ahli’s Congolese danger man, Firmin Mubele, who produced an amazing piece of skill to put the Brigadiers a goal ahead after 24 minutes.
Against the run of play, Al Ahli were gifted a penalty after Ahmed Mohamed al-Sayed, attempted to clear the ball from the edge of his own 18-yard box but instead the ball hit teammate Ahmed Fathi on the arm, leaving the referee with little other choice than to point to the spot. Al Ahli’s talismanic captain, Meshal Abdulla, stepped up to convert the penalty and made it 2-0 with a composed Panenka.
Al Arabi continued to press in front of their home crown and on the 91st minute was awarded a consolation goal as Imoh Ezekiel’s fine fun into the 18 yard box and low, fast paced cross caused Al Ahli’s Dabenke to stab it into the back of his own net.
The three points will now see Al Ahli climb above Al Arabi in the league.
