The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), as part of its community programmes, organised a seminar to raise awareness about breast cancer under the theme “Early detection: today before tomorrow”.
The seminar was held in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Corporation - Breast and Bowel Screening Programme.
The seminar comes within the framework of the ministry’s social responsibility initiatives and contributes to efforts to raise awareness among female employees, the MEC said in a press statement. The seminar aimed to familiarise women with factors leading to breast cancer and the importance of screening and early detection.
The lecturer discussed the symptoms, risk factors, facts and misconceptions about breast cancer, in addition to the importance of early detection for women - aged 45 to 69 years - at health centres located in Al Wakrah and Laabib, or at mobile screening units.
The lecturer also stressed the importance of early detection of breast cancer, which could lead to a survival rate of up to 100%, the statement added.
