Xpress Money recorded a 15% spike in remittances from Qatar during Eid al-Adha, an official said.
An increase in remittances was noticeable to countries with large Muslim population, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and Jordan.
"The Eid al-Adha remittance boost follows with a Ramadan survey released by Xpress Money earlier in the year, where a poll of 2,000 GCC-wide expatriates showed remittances rising during the holy month, with 47% of expatriates sending more money home," said Xpress Money COO Sudhesh Giriyan.
Qatar-based Bangladeshi expat and Xpress Money customer Mohamed Toufayel Ahmed, who works as a domestic helper, said: “Eid is a very special occasion where my thoughts are with friends and family back home. It’s difficult for me to travel because of my job, but at least I can participate by sending money back home so that my family can buy what they need, and also give gifts and sweets on my behalf.”
