The chairman of Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, has reiterated NHRC’s continued support for the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region as a strategic choice to build capacities of the government bodies and civil society institutions
in the Arab region.
Dr al-Marri’s remarks came during a meeting yesterday at the NHRC headquarters with the director of the centre, Dr Obaid Ahmed al-Obaid, who was appointed as director of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Yemen.
The NHRC chairman stressed during the meeting that the Committee will spare no effort in continuing its support for the centre, while calling for building bridges of communication and activation of co-operation mechanisms with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights along with continuing support provided by the State Qatar and the NHRC in the field of human rights in order to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen.
For his part, Dr Obaid thanked the NHRC for the support extended to the centre since its inception and praised the Committee’s contribution to the success of its programmes, lauding the solid partnership between the centre and the Committee and between the centre and the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions in Doha.
