Traffic fatalities in Qatar have dropped to 105 up to July this year, down nearly 30% compared with the same period in 2015, data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) show.
In the period under review in 2015, there were 151 fatalities due to road accidents.
Traffic violations accounted for 121,684 in July 2016, up 10.02% on June this year. The bulk of these were radar violations (73,381). Red light violations totalled 1,906 in July, the ministry said.
According to the MDPS data, the number of vehicles registered in July was 7,981 compared to 6,868 the previous month. This includes 4,992 private vehicles and 163 taxis.
July has also seen 1.8mn passenger departures (including transit and transfers) at Hamad International Airport. The number of passenger arrivals stood at 1.65mn in July.
About 48% of visitors to Qatar (804,875) in July were from the GCC region, the MDPS data showed. Visitors from Asia (including the Oceania region) numbered 390,576 in July (23.2%). As many 245,277 visitors from Europe (14.5%) came to Qatar in July.
The other Arab visitors to Qatar in July numbered 138,194 (8.2%).
Hotel occupancy rate (overall) was 53% in July and the average room rate was QR495 (across various categories).
Demographic statistics provided by the MDPS indicated that Qatar’s population reached 2.32mn in July, up 9.7% year-on-year. In July last year, Qatar’s population stood at 2.12mn.
The number of males in the country was 1.83mn and females 488,668.
The number of births recorded in Qatar in July stood at 2,064. The month had also seen 186 deaths, MDPS said.
As many as 13,111 persons were beneficiaries of social security in July, the data showed.
The number of properties sold in Qatar in July was 194 and were valued at QR1.27bn.
Total broad money supply (M2) in Qatar in July was QR492bn, down 0.3% on June this year. On the other hand, cash equivalents, including deposits, increased by 0.2% during July compared with June.
In contrast, Total broad money supply (M2) recorded a negative year-on-year change of 5.2%, while cash equivalents, including deposits, recorded a positive year-on-year change of 9.77%.
The top destinations for Qatari exports in July were Japan (QR3.2bn), India (QR2.414bn), South Korea (QR2.412bn), the UAE (QR1.024bn) and Thailand (QR775mn).
The top sources for Qatari imports in July, according to the MDPS were the US (QR2.04bn), China (QR934mn), the UAE (QR718mn), Germany (QR684mn) and Japan (QR506mn).
