A motorist has been fined QR10,000 by a Doha Criminal Court for reckless driving that caused the death of another motorist and injury to two other passengers.

The court found the motorist guilty of not taking the necessary precaution while driving on public roads, which posed serious risks to other road users, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, the defendant suddenly changed the lane to enter a byroad and due to his carelessness and lack of attention, crashed his vehicle into the front of another vehicle coming from the other side of the road. The accident resulted in the death of the driver of the other vehicle and injuries to two other persons in the vehicle.
Defending his action, the accused said he was driving in his lane but wanted to go into a byroad after taking the necessary precautions, and after the crash happened he fell unconscious and did not know what happened next.
Based on the police investigations and the testimony of the witnesses, the court found him guilty of the accident. Besides the fine of QR10,000, he was ordered to pay a sum of QR200,000, in collaboration with the insurance company concerned, as blood money to the legal inheritors of the victim.
Further, the court ordered the suspension of his driving licence for three months.
