A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Sri Lankan man to three years in jail and subsequent deportation for counterfeiting his university degree certificate.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that the defendant was spotted by the employee concerned when he submitted the certificate in Doha to attest the stamp of the Qatari embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
It turned out that the defendant agreed with an unidentified person to counterfeit for him a degree in accounting, and used on it a sticker of the embassy, retrieved from another document. However, the defendant denied the counterfeiting, which was proven by the authorities, and told the court that he would submit the original. But, he was unable to submit the original and the court convicted him.
