Gulf Drilling International (GDI) has signed a contract with Dolphin Energy for offshore drilling rig services.
The contract was signed by Mubarak A al-Hajri, managing director and chief executive officer and Hassan al-Emadi, general manager, Dolphin Energy, Qatar.
GDI is the subsidiary of Gulf International Services (GIS) the largest service group in Qatar, with interests in a broad cross-section of industries, ranging from insurance, re-insurance, fund management, onshore and offshore drilling, accommodation barge, helicopter transportation, and catering services.
The work under this contract will be performed by the high spec jack-up rig “Al Jassra” and will consist of drilling three wells on the DOL 1 production platform located in offshore waters of Qatar. The service will commence this month.
GDI has provided liftboat services to Dolphin Energy in the past and noted that its new liftboat “Al Safliya” is set to commence working for Dolphin Energy under a five-year contract later this month.
Al-Hajri said, “I am pleased that GDI has concluded this significant contract with Dolphin Energy as it will broaden our clientele and business portfolio. Even though GDI and Dolphin Energy have had a long standing relationship, ‘Al-Jassra’ is the first drilling rig from GDI’s fleet to work for Dolphin Energy. This contract will provide us an opportunity to demonstrate the highest levels of professional expertise all the while improving our overall rig utilisation.

Furthermore, Ebrahim Ahmad al-Mannai, managing director, GIS, said, “GIS is pleased with this fruitful partnership of its subsidiary GDI and Dolphin Energy. As we are committed to increase the company’s shareholder value, we are looking forward to the start of operation of ‘Al Jassra’ for Dolphin Energy.”
