This year’s edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) will feature a series of add-ons including on-the-spot gem certification, live workshops, special watch and pearl routes, private viewing rooms and educational seminars, an official said.
Organised by Qatar Tourism Authority and delivered by Elan Group, the five-day event will take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre from February 23 to 27.
“We are delighted to invite our visitors to look out for a wide range of new activities introduced to enhance their experience of DJWE 2016,” said Elan Group CEO Jaber al-Ansari.
“This year’s expansion will include specially designed elements around our visitors’ educational, certification and specialist interests - an exciting development in the story of the exhibition.”
The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute for diamonds, coloured gemstones and jewellery, will be attending the event.
IGI will bring Doha’s first-ever mobile diamond jewellery testing laboratory to provide potential buyers with on-the-spot, world-respected accreditation of the quality of each and every gem exhibited. Certificates provided by IGI are based on an internationally-recognised system, constituting ‘quality passports’ for individual gemstones or items of jewellery.
“We decided to set up this unique mobile laboratory at DJWE 2016 to create more awareness among consumers,” said Nico D’Haemer, managing director of IGI Dubai. “We can provide free verbal consultations on site to consumers and retailers, and give an approximate verbal grade of any diamond-studded jewellery.”
He noted that this will enable consumers to make more informed decisions when purchasing diamond jewellery in the future.
“DJWE visitors can also avail themselves of information on professional courses offered by IGI’s School of Gemology, including globally-recognised programmes for professionals, designers and discerning consumers,” D’Haemer added.
Further increasing the knowledge base at DJWE 2016, selected exhibitors will offer live discovery workshops.
Visitors can witness the application of the skills and detailed attention that go into the creation of each watch and item of jewellery, gaining a unique understanding of the time, effort and personal expertise each exquisite object embodies.
In particular, collectors and aficionados of crafted timepieces and Qatar’s darling gemstone, the pearl, are treated this year to special routes through the DJWE’s increasing expanse of glittering displays to allow them to focus on their areas of special interest.
For even more concentrated and close-up examination of the exhibition’s unique creations, DJWE 2016 now offers the opportunity for brand representatives and premium clients to make use of designated private rooms. These are situated below DJWE’s VIP area for a secluded and individual viewing experience.
DJWE 2016 offers a number of educational seminars outlining the fundamental knowledge needed by anyone for a working understanding of what constitutes good quality in jewellery and watches, how to choose them, and how to maintain them.
