In a nerve-wracking encounter, Al Sadd held their nerves to register a narrow 80-79 win over Al Wakrah at the Qatar Basketball League yesterday.
At the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall, Abdi Khalid Suliman and Raffa Anthony scored 22 and 20 points respectively to lead Sadd to close victory. The contest was closely-fought right from the beginning.
At the end of first two quarters, Wakrah had managed a slender one-point lead over Sadd. Wakrah increased the gap to six points by the end of third, but Sadd rallied back in the last quarter and not only closed the lead but won the encounter.
Suliman and Anthony combined effectively for Sadd. Suliman scored most of his points through two-pointer, while Anthony converted two three-pointers.
For Wakrah, Watson Boney Harold was the top-scorer with 20 points, while Mame Souleye Ndour also netted 16 points.
In the day’s first match, Al Gharafa outplayed Al Shamal 95-75. Gharafa took a seven-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back and cruised to an easy win.
For the victors, Mohamed Abdulrahman Saad and Emmanuel Osaro Adako scored a whopping 29 and 28 points respectively. Mildon Ambres was Shamal’s top-scorer, netting 20 points while Abdulqadir Kosar made 17.
