Doha

As part of its continuous efforts to develop the external roads, the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, announced the opening of a new main road connecting Abdullah Abdul Ghani Roundabout in Al Wakrah with Al Mashaf area in Al Wukair.
The new road, opened to traffic on June 16, is around 3.6km long. It comprises three lanes in each direction and a signal-controlled intersection with a median. The new road aims to reduce traffic jam in Al Wakrah city and to connect Abdullah Abdul Ghani Roundabout with Al Mashaf area directly, reducing the effect of backed up traffic at the Al Sadafa Roundabout in the middle of Al Wakrah city.
This project is an important one among a series of projects intended to develop roads outside Greater Doha, and part of a plan to develop and build main and expressway roads in Al Wakrah and south of Qatar. This plan includes Al Wakrah Bypass west of Al Wakrah, which will be a main road parallel to Al Wakrah Main Road, in addition to the East West Corridor and the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route.
These projects will improve movement and enhance traffic safety in Al Wakrah and south of Qatar, by separating traffic using bridges and tunnels, in addition to converting roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections, installing Intelligent Transportation Systems, street lighting, and building pedestrians and cyclists’ paths.
