Alfardan Automobiles, official BMW Group importer in Qatar, launched the all-new BMW X5 luxury Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) last night at a grand event at the company’s showroom in Al Sadd.

Alfardan Automobiles general manager Mohamed Kandeel said the SAV pioneer combines an added comfort, design and power that is appealing to their clients in Qatar.

“We are certain that this model will continue the X5 success journey across the years since it was first launched,” he added.

The X5 is sold in 140 markets, one of the best-selling models in Qatar and remains a leader in its segment. In its third generation, the new BMW X5 features an expressive front with twin circular headlights and optional Adaptive LED feature, extending into the new broad-set kidney grille, an elegantly stretched silhouette.

In the cockpit, all the controls – such as the iDrive Touch Controller – are fully geared towards the driver: a new touch sensitive controller for intuitive and convenient operations of the iDrive system.

Instead of having to scroll for letter input, users can now write letters on the surface of the iDrive controller. The various BMW Connected Drive assistance systems are also clearly focused on one overriding goal: ultimate comfort and safety.

Another remarkable feature of the X5 is the Traffic Jam Assistant, which takes control of the vehicle by automatically moving forward and maintaining a safe distance to the car in front.

“You will observe that the new design of the new X5 has changed drastically. But as we improved significantly, giving the car a very good sportier look, spacious interior, and increased driving comfort,” said the host as he presented the features of the vehicle.

The event was attended by German Ambassador Angelika Storz-Chakarji, Alfardan Group chairman Hussein Alfardan, his sons, and a number of dignitaries.

The new X5 also houses a more luxurious interior environment with a fine selection of high quality leather and trims, and atmospheric lighting options.

Using a newly developed Xdrive50i - BMW TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder V-shape petrol engine, the X5 has even increased its fuel efficiency to 17% . Delivering a torque of 650 Nm, this engine offers impressive power reserves. With an output of 330 kW (450 hp), it accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds.

It also boasts a weight minimisation features, optimised air guidance, enhanced engine technology and the standard-fitted – and extremely efficient – eight-speed automatic gearbox with additional EfficientDynamics technology; Auto Start Stop function, ECO PRO mode including coasting function and Proactive Driving Assistant.

Due to the model’s 3.2cm extended wheelbase, the cockpit now plays host to a newly raised seating position and striking horizontal lines which extend into the door trim and noticeably enhance the interior. When it comes to storage, the boot can now hold 650–1,870 litres.

The X5 also has a huge array of intelligent technologies that take efficiency and dynamism, comfort and safety to a whole new level – even when it goes off-road.

Meanwhile, the BMW X5 xDrive35i, TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line petrol engine will be launched in February 2014. This engine model delivers impressive performance figures: 225kW (306hp), a maximum torque of 400Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
