Indian schools across Qatar celebrated the 67th Independence Day of India with various programmes yesterday.
The Indian national flag was hoisted in all the schools and a number of special events were held to mark the occasion.
At MES Indian School, a colourful function was organised in the KG wing auditorium as part of the celebrations. President of the school’s governing board V V Mahamood unfurled the national flag, after which the school choir sang the national anthem. Students of the school also performed a patriotic song depicting the nationalist movement.
In his address, Mahamood highlighted the importance of the day and urged the students to remember the sacrifices of the patriots and martyrs who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle.
Birla Public School celebrated Independence Day on its Mesaimeer campus with patriotic fervour. School chairman C V Rappai hoisted the Indian flag in the presence of other board members and principal A K Shrivastava.
In his address, Rappai exhorted the students and their parents – who were present in large numbers - to nurture ethical values to help overcome the problems India was facing. Children sang the national anthem and patriotic songs specially prepared for the occasion. Several students wore tricolour sashes and dresses displaying patriotic fervour.
DPS-Modern Indian School celebrated Independence Day with Hasan Chougule, president of the institute, unfurling the national flag on the Al Wakrah campus.
Students, teachers, parents, administrative staff and members of the DPS-MIS management took part in the celebrations.
Chougule, during his address to the gathering, highlighted the growth achieved by India in several areas of development. Kaushiki Mishra, a Class 11 student, expressed her feelings and views on the occasion as a young citizen of the country.
Abdul Kader, vice-chairman of Bhavan’s Public School, hoisted the Indian tricolour in the school’s Al Wakrah complex to mark the occasion.
At Ideal Indian School, Dr Hassan Kunhi MP, president of the institute, unfurled the national flag with the school choir singing the national anthem. Acting principal Mohamed Nowfal, staff, students and parents attended the function.
Shantiniketan Indian School celebrated India’s Independence Day with a ceremony on its Barwa Village campus. Vice-principal Shihabudheen Pulath hoisted the national
flag and the staff and students spoke about the importance of the day during the programme.
