Army chief meets UK defence official   


HE the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah, conferred with General Sir Nicholas Houghton, the chief of the British Defence Staff who is currently visiting Doha. During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of topics with emphasis on the military affairs. A number of senior army officers attended the meeting.

Qatar-Bangladesh ties reviewed


Begum Khaleda Zia, leader of the opposition in the Parliament, Leader of the National Party and former prime minister of Bangladesh met Qatar’s Ambassador in Dhaka  Abdurrahman Youssef Abdurrahman al-Mullah whose term of office has expired.
During the meeting they reviewed relations between Qatar and Bangladesh and ways to develop them. They also exchanged views on matters of mutual concern.

Djibouti honour for Qatar’s envoy


President of Djibouti, Omar Guelleh met the outgoing Ambassador of Qatar Ali bin Mubarak al-Muhannadi and awarded him the Order of Unity in recognition of the outstanding efforts he exerted during his tenure .  
Ambassador al-Muhannadi conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Djibouti’s president, and their wishes of further progress and prosperity for the government and people of Djibouti.
President Omar Guelleh reciprocated the greetings to HH the Emir and HH the Heir Apparent.

Plan to reopen Al Muntazah Park


Sources in the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning have revealed a plan that envisages the development and reopening of a family recreation park in Al Muntazah, one of the oldest in Qatar, local daily Al-Arab has reported.
According to the sources, the development plan is in the final stages and is part of a larger scheme that includes several other parks. The Al Muntazah Park has remained closed for several years.
The sources point out that the plan is to open the park to the general public instead of only women and children. The modernisation plan also envisages the establishment of children’s playing facilities, cafeterias, fountains, a waterway and pedestrian passages, says the report.

10 new health centres to be opened


Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik, managing director of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), said the corporation would establish 10 new health centres (HC) in 2014-2015 besides revamping six existing HCs, a report in local daily Al-Sharq said.
She also clarified that rumours, which claimed that some health centres would be allocated only to nationals, were false.
The PHCC official said primary healthcare would form the base of the medical system in Qatar as required by the national healthcare strategy, providing quality services to nationals and residents of Qatar, according to the report.
Dr Abdulmalik said Qatar Red Crescent Society is supervising expatriate health centres and the Al Mamoura HC, which have been allocated to bachelor expatriates. Health services for bachelors are no longer under the management of the PHCC. She added that health centres of the PHCC receive 4mn patients annually, said the report.

Development of Muaither in full swing


Central Municipal Council (CMC) member Mohamed al-Azba has highlighted a number of ongoing and completed infrastructure projects and services in the Muaither area, according to a report in local daily Arrayah.
These include adding final touches to three family parks with child play zones, establishment of a drinking water network and the opening of three mosques, the report adds.
Al-Azba said work is under way to open a family park in eastern Muaither and approval has been obtained to illuminate all internal streets in the area. Besides, names have been given to some of the streets and old roads in the locality are undergoing maintenance, the report states.
The official said more infrastructure development projects have been lined up for execution in the coming days, including work on a sanitary network, streets, expansion of greenery and beautification of the area.
Al-Azba said the residents of Muaither had listed their priorities, which included the establishment of commercial streets, a sanitary network and a health centre and the removal of high-tension electricity cables. According to the report, he said two fuel stations were established and the pending projects were being followed up with the competent authorities, including Ashghal.
