"The new postage stamp is very special as it represents the 5/6 Interchange, the distinctive architectural icon and the Qatari landmark."
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that it will divert traffic on the exit ramp and lanes southeast of Umm Lekhba Interchange, from Doha towards Al Markhiya Street, from March 17.
The closure is being carried out in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, Ashghal has said in a press statement.
According to a statement from Ashghal, the work includes the construction of a five-lane carriageway on either side in addition to 10 grade-separated interchanges, fast cycling lane and shared path.
The opening of the northbound lanes on the bridge enables road users travelling from Al Wakra to Doha to continue directly north towards the Corniche and City Center Doha.
The proposed road change, which will occur approximately 50km south west of Doha, has been designed in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has opened an intersection at the East Street 33 Interchange, above the East Industrial Street underpass.
