Workers engaged in the final stages of one of the world’s tallest granite seated image of the Buddha are seen at the Rambodagalle temple at Rideegama near Kurunegala, 111km from Colombo, yesterday. The 67.5ft high, (20.60m) designed on the lines of a Bamiyan Buddha image in Afghanistan destroyed by the Taliban is taking shape not only as a symbol of Buddhism but a sign of unity among the different communities and religions in Sri Lanka.
