Mark Teixeira smacked two long home runs to center field for six RBIs, including a grand slam in the second inning, as the New York Yankees pounded out 18 hits in a 13-6 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
Right fielder Carlos Beltran and infielder Brendan Ryan also finished with three hits, while four other Yankees had multi-hit games. Rookie left-hander Carlos Rodon (4-4) took the loss after allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in three-plus innings.
Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (11-2) earned the win by pitching 5-2/3 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. White Sox designated hitter Adam LaRoche tied a career high with four hits (4-for-5, RBI) and also pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Yankees (58-44) are leading the American League East and it did not take them long to take a commanding lead. After scoring a run on two doubles in the first, they made it a 6-0 lead with five runs in the second on five hits, including Teixeira’s slam.
Rodon allowed back-to-back singles by catcher John Ryan Murphy and second baseman Brendan Ryan to start the inning, but fell into trouble after they were sacrificed to second and third. Rodon got center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury to line out for the second out, holding Ryan at third, but control issues loaded the bases on a walk, which was followed by designated hitter Alex Rodriguez’s run-scoring infield hit.
Teixeira then launched his slam to center field for his 27th homer of the season and first of the game. Eovaldi allowed two runs in the third on a two-run homer by Chicago first baseman Jose Abreu, but got five more runs of support on another five hits by his teammates in the Yankees’ half of the fourth, again highlighted by a Teixeira homer, this time off right-hander Matt Albers. That homer set a major league record for the switch-hitting Teixeira, who has homered from both sides of the plate in the same game 14 times.

Rangers 6, Giants 3
Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre and shortstop Elvis Andrus each hit two-run homers as the Rangers beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3. Both of the home runs came off San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner, who matched a season high by allowing six earned runs.
Beltre put the Rangers up 2-0 with his homer to left in the first and Andrus capped a four-run second with his shot to left, giving the Rangers a 6-2 edge. Catcher Chris Gimenez and center fielder Delino DeShields also had RBIs in the inning. Texas starter Nick Martinez pitched 6-1/3 innings for his first win since June 9. He gave up seven hits and struck out four.

Blue Jays 7, Royals 6
Third baseman Josh Donaldson hit a single in the 11th inning to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki singled with one out in the 11th against left-hander Franklin Morales then took second when Morales was called for a balk on a throw to first with Donaldson at the plate.
Donaldson then singled to give the Blue Jays and right-handed reliever Liam Hendriks (3-0) the win.

Red Sox 7, Rays 5
Mike Napoli launched a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning as Boston pulled out a 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The homer followed a walk to DH David Ortiz and came after the Rays had taken the lead with two runs in the top of the inning. Napoli’s 13th homer of the season made a winner of reliever Junichi Tazawa.

Phillies 9, Braves 3

David Buchanan pitched one of the best games of his young major league career and got all the backing he would need from the Phillies offense in a 9-3 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Buchanan went 7-1/3 innings and gave up three runs, two of which came from a two-run home run by Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman, before he was replaced. Philadelphia notched a 4-0 first innings lead after Ryan Howard hit a three-run double to the center field fence.

Pirates 5, Reds 4
Andrew McCutchen homered and shortstop Jung Ho Kang doubled three times and scored twice to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Mariners 6, Twins 1
Taijuan Walker threw a complete-game one-hitter for the Seattle Mariners in a 6-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. The only hit Walker allowed was a solo home run by Twins third baseman Miguel Sano in the fourth inning. He retired nine in a row after that and 16 of the final 17 men he faced in all.

Orioles 8, Tigers 7
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in the sixth and Chris Davis added an RBI single later in the inning as the Orioles rallied from an early six-run deficit to pull out an 8-7 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Detroit right fielder J.D. Martinez hit a two-run homer in the third while catcher James McCann and first baseman Jefry Marte went deep on back-to-back pitches off left-hander Wei-Yin Chen in the fourth to help the Tigers to the 6-0 edge.

Padres 8, Marlins 3 (11 innings)

First baseman Yonder Alonso forced in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk on four pitches from Marlins closer A.J. Ramos in the top of the 11th inning to lead the San Diego Padres past the Miami Marlins.
San Diego scored five runs in the inning, including a two-run single by second baseman Jedd Gyorko, who finished the game with three RBIs.

Cardinals 7, Rockies 0

St. Louis used a five-run sixth inning, all with two outs, to record a 7-0 win over Colorado.
Michael Wacha (12-4) worked seven shutout innings for the victory, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out seven. Kyle Kendrick (4-12) took the loss, leaving after one inning with right shoulder inflammation. He allowed four hits and two runs.

Mets 2, Nationals 1 (12 innings)
Second baseman Wilmer Flores homered leading off the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the New York Mets to a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals. Flores also had an RBI single in the fourth inning. Right-hander Carlos Torres (4-4) struck out the side in the 12th for the win.

Cubs 4, Brewers 1

Anthony Rizzo homered for the third straight game as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Rizzo finished with two hits and gave Chicago some breathing room with his solo shot off left-hander Neal Cotts in the seventh. Jason Hammel (6-5) went 5-2/3 innings for the Cubs and held Milwaukee to a run on six hits and two walks.

Diamondbacks 6, Astros 4

Catcher Wellington Castillo capped a three-hit performance with a leadoff home run in the top of the 10th inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied for a 6-4 win over the Houston Astros. Castillo had a single and a double before lining the first pitch from Astros right-hander Pat Neshek (3-2) just inside the left-field pole. He finished 3-for-5 with three runs.

Indians 2, A’s 1
Right-hander Danny Salazar allowed one hit and one unearned run in eight innings as the Cleveland Indians rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Oakland A’s. Salazar (9-6) struck out four and walked one.

Dodgers 5, Angels 3
Second baseman Howie Kendrick homered against his ex-mates, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Zack Greinke started instead of Dodgers team mate Clayton Kershaw, who rested his sore hip for an extra day. Grienke allowed two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in eight innings. Angels’ outfielder Mike Trout, who went 3-for-4 and drove in all three runs, smacked his 32nd home run in the ninth off Kenley Jansen before the closer earned his 18th save.
