Three important tournaments reached their conclusion on Tuesday night as part of the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) Ramadan Sports Festival – the Aspire Embassies Tournament, the Men’s Football and the Aspire Staff Futsal Tournament.
Commenting on the Ramadan Sport Festival competitions, Hussain al-Qahtani, Corporate Communications Manager at AZF, said: “We are delighted with the great atmosphere that we’ve been able to help create at Aspire during this Holy Month and we’re proud of the success of today’s competitions. Our goal at Aspire Zone Foundation is to support collaboration and well-being amongst the local community. Those who have visited Aspire and experienced these competitions will know we have succeeded in achieving this goal. We thank all participants for their efforts and wish the very best of luck to the remaining teams for this unique Ramadan Festival.”
The Aspire Embassies Tournament – organised for the first time this year – saw an excellent final between players representing Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a team from the Moroccan Embassy.
The final was played in the presence of Department of Protocol assistant director in Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz al-Neima, Aspire Logistics events manager Abdullah al-Khater and AZF venue manager Tariq al-Abdullah.
Qatar team won the final 8-2.
The Qatar team were awarded with the trophy by al-Neima, who also handed out medals to both teams.
Commenting on the tournament and the festival, al-Neima, said: “We would like to thank Aspire Zone Foundation for laying on this tournament, the first time it has been played, and for doing such an excellent job in organising it. I would like to congratulate the Qatari team on this well-deserved win and also invite all the embassies based here in Qatar to participate in future tournaments.”
Ali al-Hashmi, a player in the Qatari team, said, “We are delighted with the result and extremely pleased to have taken part in this tournament. Each member of our team enjoyed every single game and we were incredibly determined. I want to thank each of my teammates for their efforts, and we look forward to playing more games together in the future.”
India and Morocco finished the tournament in second and third position respectively.
In the men’s football competition, Al Waab beat PSG 4-3 in a close match to win the title. Al-Khater awarded trophies and medals to both teams. Kafod finished third in the tournament.
In the final match of the Aspire Zone staff tournament, team Aspartans were crowned victors after they beat team Pillars 3-1 in the final.
The first round of the beach soccer competition drew to a close on Tuesday night with four teams qualifying for the final stage of the tournament. From Group A, team Murack and Al Gharafa Falcons made it through, while from Group B, teams Africa Stars and Barcelona went through. In the next round, Murack will play Barcelona and Africa Stars will play Al Gharrafa Falcons.
On Tuesday night two matches were played in the Women’s Futsal. In the first match Al Sadd met Barcelona, which ended with Al Sadd winning 2–1. In the second match, Qatar and Merangi played out a 1-1 draw.
