HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Meeyur won the Prix Damas at Dax Racecourse, France on Sunday. The Group III race reserved for four-year-old and older Pure Arabians was run over 1,400m. This is Meeyur’s second victory of the season and her first Group race title in her second attempt at this level. She fought to win. Al Mouhannad finished second by a short neck behind Meeyur.
Before this success, the filly had already shown great potential, finishing second in the French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge for three year old fillies (Gr3 PA) last year. Trained by Philippe Sogorb, she then imposed herself in the Prix Kriss II for her return, against Al Mouhannad and No Problem Al Maury FR. Again, she ran against and beat these two horses in the Prix Damas on Sunday.
“She is a great filly”, said Philippe Sogorb, “She counts two successes this year after two races. We are very happy. She is in her category today. She has speed and does what she is asked to do even though I think she was a little less at her best than for her return race. She did a good job and she won. It was a fast race. They came back in the turn and they were all horses of quality in the race.”
Philippe Sogorb is considering sending Meeyur to the Qatar International Stakes (Gr1 PA) on August 1 during the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Before that, she will certainly run once again in France.
