Al Shamal scored a 77-85 win over Qatar Club at the Qatar Cup Basketball being played at Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
In fact, it was Qatar Club which had taken a 27-14 lead in the first period. They made it to 50-41 in the second period, before Al Shamal narrowed it down to 62-36 in the third.  However, it was complete reversal of fortunes in the last period as Al Shamal turned the screws on Qatar Club. Shamal didn’t just overtake their opponents but took a healthy lead to pocket the match.
Anthony White and Leron Hunter once again combined to lead Shamal to victory, scoring 30 and 29 points respectively. Kamal Hachad chipped in with 12 points. For the vanquished, Mile Ilic tio-scored with 24  points, followed by Craig O’Brien (19) and 14 points each from Wallace Torrington and Mahmoud Ahmed.
In the night’s another match, hosts Al Gharafa outplayed Al Khor 80-52. Samuel Jr. Monroe led Gharafa’s charge scoring 20 points, and he was well-supported by Osaro Emmanuel (18).
For Al Khor, Anthony Shavon garnered 17 points, followed by 12 from Kardell Kevin and 11 from Hisham Ahmed. Gharafa scored 25 points from turnovers, while Al Khor could convert just 13.
In today’s matches, Al Wakrah will run into Al Sadd from 5pm, followed by Al Rayyan versus Al Arabi.
