It was a see-saw battle between Lekhwiya and Al Ahli during their Qatar Stars League encounter yesterday but it was the defending champions who managed to eke out a 2-2 draw with a 94th minute strike by Ismail Mohamed.
The match started with Ahli taking the lead through their captain Meshal Abdullah as early as in the 11th minute and Lekhwiya were put under instant pressure. But they responded by drawing level in the 31st minute through Ismail. Ahli then scored what they thought would be the winner in the 85th minute through their star striker Alain Dioko only for Ismail to break their hearts with an injury time equalizer.
It was a match that was played at a high tempo and even saw Abdullah getting a knock on his head for which he needed a lengthy treatment. Lekhwiya coach Michael Laudrup will be relieved at rescuing a point while his counterpart Milan Mácala, will be ruing the fact that his team couldn’t hold on for what would’ve been a thrilling win.
