HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, the Chairman of Organizing Committee of 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship, made an inspection visit yesterday to the sport facilities of the upcoming 24th 2015 Men’s Handball World Championships to be held in Doha in January.

During the visit, His Excellency inspected the work progress at Qatar 2015 facilities including Al Sadd Sports Hall, which can accommodate 7,700 spectators. Al Sadd can host Handball, Volleyball, Badminton and Gymnastics.

It is designed to be transformed into an ice hockey ring which fulfils the standards of the IHF. HE Sheikh Joaan also visited Lusail Multipurpose Hall, which has a capacity of 15,300 spectators and is designed to provide convenient space and facilities for sports fans.

HE Sheikh Joaan expressed hope that these facilities would be ideal places to host the next Men’s Handball World Championships and other games. He met with heads of the committees and bodies responsible for ensuring that the work is progressing according to the pre-planned schedule.

HE Sheikh Joaan said: “The Qatar 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship will leave a vital sporting legacy for the people of Qatar in the form of our three outstanding venues. These venues will host international standard arenas and playing fields, as well as advanced support facilities, such as training halls, media centres and areas. The teams are working hard in order to meet the deadline and implement the highest international standards for major Handball and mega-sporting events.”

The committees reviewed work progress in training rooms and facilities for players and VIP areas and lounges. These facilities will play a key role in the training and development of the national teams by encouraging more young people to participate in sport and adopt a healthy lifestyle. The first venue that will be used for Qatar 2015, Qatar Handball Association Complex, has already hosted its first event, the International Handball Federation (IHF) Super Globe 2014, and received strong feedback from visiting dignitaries and industry figures.

The newly-built venue is one of the most modern and technically-advanced handball stadiums in the region and uses sustainable green technology to provide cooling and ventilation throughout the complex.During a meeting with the committees responsible for Al Saad Sports Hall, it was agreed that the training areas will be fully-ready in October after the Eid holiday, so that Qatar’s national team can begin training there. Access to the area will be an important part of the national team’s preparation for the Qatar 2015
