Doha: Khalfan Ibrahim, the Al Sadd and Qatari international, scored his 62nd goal for the Wolves. The playmaker has now equalised the club record, which had been set by Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio.

The 62nd goal came in the away match against Al Wakrah from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute in Round 3 of the Qatar Stars League.

Among the 62 goals scored by Khalfan, 12 of them were penalties as well as one hat-trick back in the 2012/13 season against Al Sailiya. The mid-fielder has also scored 12 braces in his career so far. From 156 appearances for the Wolves, Khalfan has scored in 48 of the games.

His first goal as a professional came against Al Shamal back in 2004, his team went on to win 3-1. The Qatari player was also voted as the Best Young Asian Player back in 2006 and has since gone on to represent his country in 88 games.

The Qatari international  last season scored 14 goals and gave 11 assists, which meant that in total he contributed 23 goals (one more than top goal scorer Alain Dioko).

This season he has already scored two and assisted twice and will be an integral part of Al Sadd’s challenge for the title. Now Khalfan only needs to score one more goal to overtake Carlos Tenorio in order to surpass the current record and become an Al Sadd legend.  This weekend against Umm Salal could see Khalfan’s name written into the annals of Qatari football history if he can get the 63rd goal. The game will be played at the Suhaim bin Hamad stadium.
