Doha: Al Rayyan have shown their ambition by two big signings - Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Lucho Gonzalez. Yakubu has joined the Qatar Stars League team on an 18-month deal from Chinese Super League Club, Guangzhou.

“I heard Qatar has a very strong League and Rayyan are a prestigious club,” the striker was quoted as telling the club’s website. “I want to train hard and help the team win games and to target winning the League title,” he added.

The bigger catch is the Argentinian midfielder Gonzalez from Portuguese giants Porto. The 33-year-old is a play-maker who could help reverse Al Rayyan’s fortunes this season. “I will fight with my team in order to return Al Rayyan to its natural position. I want to help them out of the difficult situation they find themselves in and hopefully allow the team to get back winning trophies. I know that it is going to be very difficult,” Gonzalez was quoted as saying.
