Al Sadd scored a thrilling 68-65 win over Al Gharafa in the Qatar Basketball League at the Al Rayyan Sports Club yesterday.

In a neck-and-neck game which saw the two sides locked at 35-35 at the end of the second quarter and 52-52 at the end of the third, Al Gharafa seemed to have had the match in their grasp when they led 59-54 five minutes into the final quarter.

But Al Sadd rallied brilliantly to scored 14 points in the final five minutes, restricting Al Gharafa to just six to clinch an heart-stopping win.

Sulaiman Abdi was the leading scorer for Al Sadd with 19 points while Daoud Moosa had 14. Alpha Bangura (12) and Ali Erfan (11) chipped in with vital contributions. For Al Gharafa, Thomas Blair excelled with 21 points while Ward Spates had 15

In another match, Antwon Hardy and Moustapha Niang had 22 points each as Al Khor beat Al Ahli 97-71.

Ahmed Karrar scored four three-pointers from five attempts for 18 and Marquis Jones and Chatue Tamagne 16 and 15 points respectively as Al Khor maintained a comfortable lead in all quarters to clinch a convincing victory.

Al Khor scored 18 off the bench and also had 14 fast-break points which contributed to their total significantly.

For Al Ahli, Calvin Cage Jr excelled with 20 and Delonte Holland scored 19. Al Ahli recorded 21 points in the third quarter but by then Al Khor were so comfortably ahead that their rivals didn’t have a chance.
