Ahmad Ghaith al-Kuwari secured the pole position for the fifth round of Qatar National Road Racing Championship (QNRRCH) at the Losail International Circuit on Friday evening. |
Earlier, the Qatari driver Mohammed Nasser al-Aseiri with a Porsche GT3 was the fastest driver in the free practice with a lap time of 2.23.345 in the Open class. The second best time was for Pavel Nedobity from Czech Republic with a time of 2.23.675 with his Lotus. In the Production class, David Andrew Walker made the best time with his Honda car, 2.36.107.
In the qualifying practice, Ahmad Ghaith al-Kuwari clocked the time of 2.22.354 with his Mitsubishi car and will be in the front grid tomorrow. Next to the Qatari driver, there will be Mohammed Nasser al-Aseiri who made a lap time of 2.22.648.
In the production class, the best time was for David Andrew Walker.
“It was wonderful today. I thought the weather will crash the track because of the dust, but it was ok. I didn’t expect a good track as normally we drive after the bikes but the line was ok. I did what we had to do, I pushed the car to the maximum, we did the first qualifying of the season and I try to keep the first place tomorrow,” Ahmed Ghaith al-Kuwari said.
“I am very happy with my time today and I am very sure that the competition in the race will be very thought as the front cars are very close with the timings,” Mohammed Nasser al-Aseiri said.
Abdulaziz Abdulla said: “The race tomorrow will be a tough race, as the qualifying are very near. I have to do some alignment in my car and I hope to be better tomorrow,.
David Andrew Walker said: “I feel great today, as I had so many car troubles in the last weeks, and now the car is running beautiful and I feel very confident for the race tomorrow.”
The rescheduled third round car race were also held on Friday. The race was earlier scheduled in March but was cancelled due to the rain. Mohamed al-Aseiri won the race in the Open class in his Porsche GT3. The Qatari driver, who started in the fourth position in the grid crossed the checkered flag with a gap of 1.366s.
Abdulaziz Abdulla finished second in his Porsche Carrera, while Talal Wehbe finished third. In the Production class Qatari driver Nasser Sheghail al-Abdulla emerged the winner. David Walker from Great Britain and Rhodelin Senga from Philippines finished second and third, respectively.
The Australian driver Talal Wehbe and Abdulaziz Abdulla from Qatar are leading the championship with 28 points each. Mohammed al-Aseiri is in the third place with 15 points.
Nasser al-Abdulla is in the first place in the Production class with 20 points. QMMF board member Sultan al-Morraikhi gave away the trophies.
